I got to know Yazid through our Master’s programme at LASALLE.

As someone who does not come from a theatre or performance background, I initially found many of the concepts in theatre abstract and challenging to grasp. As a result, I often had questions, some of which may have seemed unrelated or unconventional. However, Yazid was always patient, thoughtful, and engaging in his responses.

What stood out to me was that he did not always provide direct answers. Instead, he would often respond with thoughtful questions that encouraged me to reflect more deeply and arrive at my own understanding.

He is sharp and insightful while also being attentive to the feelings and perspectives of his students. As an educator myself, I believe teaching is deeply relational, and Yazid balances challenge and care exceptionally well.

Learning from him was a valuable experience, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a thoughtful, supportive, and inspiring teacher.

Yazid is a talented actor, director, theatre deviser, and educator. As his former teacher and thesis supervisor at LASALLE College of the Arts, I have witnessed firsthand his exceptional skills and dedication to his craft. Yazid's versatility is evident in his ability to excel in various roles. Whether he's leading an acting class, directing a production, or collaborating with arts organisations, he consistently brings a strong pedagogical perspective and a commitment to excellence. His pedagogical approach is particularly impressive, as he skilfully adapts his teaching methods to cater to students of all ages and skill levels. Beyond his teaching, Yazid is a thoughtful and collaborative artist. I have witnessed his genuine care for his students and his ability to make complex concepts accessible and engaging.

As someone who had no talent for acting, acting was a mystery to me, despite having aspirations to be an actor. Yazid broke down the art for me in a way I understood, and this has helped me in the various performances I participated in over the last 20 years, even though they were minor roles or even non-speaking roles. He has coached me in ways that were personally curated for me. I am now more confident in myself and have largely mitigated my stage fright as well.

What I appreciate most about him is his kindness and sincerity. He is honest and passionate about his work. He pushed me to always do better each day, and gave me encouragement when he saw that I needed it.

Once, we were assigned individual homework. Do research and present it through performance. He did one-on-one consultations before the presentation. His insightful feedback and guidance inspired me to explore exciting new ideas that previously I felt unsure of.

In essence, he gave me the courage to be brave, and the knowledge to back it up.

Yazid is a highly detailed and dedicated lecturer who has guided me in dramaturgy, physical training, and both theoretical and practical aspects of performance. His teaching covers all areas necessary to enrich my learning. As performers, our primary tools are our body and voice, and Yazid consistently begins his classes with warm ups that sharpen our physical awareness before delving deeply into how dramaturgy can be applied to our work. He is a truly well rounded and inspiring teacher.
