About Lorena
As an educator with a passion for English, I enjoy finding ways to share the joys of learning with others. I believe my skills and experience will help students achieve their academic as well as personal goals. I am a recent graduate from McGill University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Education, specializing in English as a second language in July 2019. I am currently teaching ESL at the high school level; although, my degree allows me to teach at both the primary and secondary levels. I decided to pursue my studies in second language acquisition because I strongly believe that learning an additional language is a gain, and not a loss. Not only does bilingualism improve your chances of employment, but it allows one to be more open-minded and to appreciate the different cultures, languages, and social contexts of the world.

I believe that not only do students learn from their teachers but that teachers are constantly learning from their students. Learning should be student-centered. Teachers should be there to explain, model, and scaffold the material, then give students many opportunities to absorb what they have been taught, practice what they have learned, and share what they have accomplished with their peers. Students should not be expected to memorize the material being told to them; instead, they should be involved in the learning process which will allow them to learn.
