About Jake
I am an accomplished A-level Mathematics tutor, offering support throughout the academic year. Over the past decade, I’ve helped more than 200 students achieve their desired grades, ranging from Oxbridge applicants to those in need of passing grades for future endeavours.
In 2019, I achieved a First Class (Hons) Master of Mathematics degree from the University of East Anglia. Following that, I worked at the University as an Associate Tutor, teaching foundation year students the A-Level syllabus. In response to the disruptions in 2020, I transitioned to exclusive online tutoring and have continued in this capacity ever since.
Learning mathematics is similar to constructing a tower of blocks. Just as missing blocks can hinder the stability of the tower, gaps in prior knowledge can make later topics seem impossible. As a math tutor, my role is to identify these gaps swiftly and address them effectively. Mistakes are an integral part of the learning process, especially in math. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, allowing us to learn from them and prevent repetition in the future.
Every student is unique, and I tailor my teaching methods accordingly. Whether you’re aiming for a pass or striving for an A*, I’ll find the right strategy to help you excel. Maths need not be daunting—I’m here to make it accessible and enjoyable.
While I aim to ensure that every student develops a solid understanding of the underlying concepts in each topic, it’s essential to acknowledge that A-level Mathematics is entirely exam-based. Consequently, I integrate past exam questions into our learning process. These questions serve a dual purpose: reinforcing crucial ideas whilst familiarizing students with the exam format. Drawing from my experience of completing over 40 mathematics exams, ranging from GCSE to master’s level, I can offer valuable tips that contribute towards achieving top grades.
Mathematics, with its emphasis on problem-solving and critical thinking, has practical applications in everyday life. It empowers us to understand the world around us, and I aspire to share that sense of wonder with all my students.

Jake has been my A Level Mathematics tutor throughout my second year of sixth form education. My lessons with him were always enjoyable and challenging as he provided test material that we worked through which went beyond the difficulty of the A level syllabus to not only prepare me as well as possible for exams but to improve my mathematical ability and problem solving as a whole. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I didn’t actually get to sit the exams but at the end of the year, I was awarded an A grade due to a consistently strong performance throughout the year, which, no doubt, was aided by my weekly lessons with Jake. He encouraged a strong work ethic, has a great sense of humour and truly cares. My lessons with him have allowed me to secure a place to study medicine, for which he has offered his continued support in the form of university advice and further help if ever I need it. I would highly recommend Jake to help anyone to maximise their mathematical potential.
Jake has been tutoring me for roughly 6 months in A-level maths and further maths and it has amazed me so far! The lessons are a great help and he definitely knows the subject.1 He is very easy-going and understands if you struggle or need something explained twice (as I often do). would definitely recommend. 10/10.
