About Marco
I am a Hong Kong violinist, recently graduated with distinction from the Artist Masters in Violin Performance (Orchestral Artistry) at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, supported by the Margaret B. Adams Award scholarship.
My career focuses on nurturing violin students and professional orchestral playing. I have extensive professional orchestral experience, including trials with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, as well as freelance work with leading ensembles such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, English National Opera, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and London Mozart Players.
Alongside performing, I have over 10 years of teaching experience in both Hong Kong and the UK. I have successfully guided many students to achieve strong results in ABRSM and Trinity graded examinations, helping them build solid technique, musical confidence, and effective practice habits.

Below is my teaching approach, refined after years of teaching experience with students of all levels:
1. Posture and Bow hold
I place strong emphasis on posture and bow hold from the very first lesson, as these form the foundation of healthy technique, sound production, and long-term progress. Tension in the body often develops unconsciously and I provide the right methods to tackle each of the issues.
2.Technique and musicality
I believe true musicality comes from having control and flexibility over the instrument, allowing the student to express musical ideas freely and confidently. I provide carefully selected scales and études to strengthen the core technical foundation, focusing on control, flexibility, and coordination. These exercises are designed to target specific technical challenges such as intonation, bow control, shifting, articulation, and finger independence.
3.Sightreading skills
As a professional orchestral musician, I understand the importance of fast and reliable sight-reading. Strong sight-reading skills significantly increase learning speed, allowing musicians to absorb new repertoire efficiently. In my teaching, sightreading materials will be used to help students learn how to read ahead, prioritise rhythm and structure, and stay musically engaged even when encountering unfamiliar material.
4.Ear training
Through guided listening and reflection, students learn to observe their own sound, intonation, balance, and musical impact. This awareness allows them to identify issues, reflect on their playing, and apply corrections effectively rather than relying solely on external feedback.
*Parents of young beginners are strongly encouraged to attend lessons in order to understand the learning process and the challenges of the instrument. This allows parents to better support their child during practice at home, especially when the teacher is not present.
