About Anthea

I have travelled and worked with children and their parents extensively around the globe.

I also homeschooled my own child and find the educational process an engaging, exciting and adventurous one!

I have published three books and am currently working on the illustrations for the next forty short story children's books I have written.

I have designed courses to support reading, comprehension and handwriting and am currently working on several numeracy courses.

I enjoy approaching learning objectives through the child's interests and design tailor-made projects to supprt the core and foundation subjects.

I am an avid music fan and enjoy travelling, reading and learning new things.

Observe the student; deliver the support.

I believe that education is an important aspect in a person’s life. Through education
the mind is shaped and through this shaping process perceptions are made; not only
of one’s self but of the community and the world as a whole. Those who educate are
the portals that allow knowledge to be attained.

As an educator my aim is to help students meet their fullest potential in an
environment that is safe, supportive, challenging and approachable; an atmosphere
that promotes effective communication wherein everyone can freely explore and
share ideas and excellently flourish. An enabling and enjoyable setting where there
is respect for all and the environment.

For students to acquire knowledge, self-discipline and the opportunity to discover
and assimilate naturally and practice skills in authentic situations are paramount.
Providing students access to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time and
space to use materials that reinforce lessons being studied create an opportunity for
individual to discover, understand and attain knowledge.

Planning a curriculum around students’ interest fosters intrinsic motivation and
stimulates the passion to learn. One way to take learning in a direction relevant to
student interest is to invite students dialogue about the lessons and units of study.
From experience, it is noted that, given the opportunity for input, students generate
ideas and set goals that make for much richer activities than I could have created or
imagined myself. When students have ownership in the curriculum, they are
motivated to work hard and master the skills necessary to reach their goals. Working
coherently as a team is essential. When the school community functions as a team
the community can develop curricula and teaching methods that will be meaningful
and useful for all. By collaborating with colleagues and allowing students to actively
participate in the planning as well as delivery of lessons, the classroom becomes a
place where ideas are confidently expressed and valued.

Education is evolving each day and it is the educator’s responsibility to stay abreast
of the changing system while ensuring a comprehensive and nourishing learning
environment that meets individual learning needs. An educator is required to be fully
committed and passionate to profession. Teaching provides an opportunity for
continual learning and growth.

One of my hopes as an educator is to enhance the love of learning in my students,
as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for
compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working
especially with children who have a naturally absorbent mind and are keen to
discover themselves, others and the world in which they live. In our competitive
society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work
with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs.
I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.
