About Nicholas
I studied Chinese at SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies), University of London. After graduating in 2013, I studied in Shanghai and worked for a marketing-communications company. I then attained HSK3 (i.e. the language admission qualification for Chinese universities) in 2014, and was awarded a full scholarship by the Confucius Institute to study at Northwest Normal University in Lanzhou. I have been tutoring privately since 2016, including to lawyers, business people and casual learners.

I will broadly follow the path of standard textbooks. However, I do strongly believe grammar needs to be learnt in context, so I will teach grammar slightly more holistically to show how the language 'fits together'. This style would particularly benefit a motivated complete beginner or elementary student looking to progress quickly.
