"Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber, and future of an individual. If people
remember me as a good teacher, that will be the biggest honour for me''- Dr.A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
I would describe myself as a teacher, who intends to develop her students in a way that they can perform
exceptionally well in real life situations. I firmly believe that learning is a never ending process. I like to interact with students,
advise them about not just about lessons of knowledge, but if needed even about lessons of life. I share with
them the strategies of learning which might be different from course to course. According to me having high qualifications isn’t just enough to make a person a good teacher. Rather than qualification it is the art of conveying and sharing information
and the passion that matters a lot. The foremost
task of an educator is to instill in students a desire/urge to learn. This desire creeps in once students understand the significance and relevance of the course /subject in their social and
personal life. This is of particular importance when teaching courses in science. I have used the art of invoking curiosity among my students before instructing or presenting
any scientific concept or phenomena. The tools I use for this are the daily life happenings around us. During my days of teaching of Thermodynamics ( a course most students dread), I
had to teach entropy and the law which states that the entropy of the universe is always increasing, degree of randomness is always increasing and that every object/matter has an inclination
to be in a state of disorder. During my initial years of teaching, I found it very difficult to convince my students about this randomness and inclination towards being random. However, as time progressed, I came up with an example from their own classroom to explain the concept. I explained it by saying that, as soon as a teacher leaves a classroom, the students talk, chat, the classroom becomes noisy and disordered. It happens by default; we have never seen it happening the other way around. My students accepted this analogy with a smile. Before I impress upon my students the importance of punctuality, hard work, and sincerity, I make sure that these values reflect in my teaching, work and behavior. I firmly believe that my dedicated, disciplined and enthusiastic approach to teaching and mentoring students paved the path for my success as of date.
