About Susie

I am a 4th year Natural Sciences student at the University of Cambridge with at least 350 hours of tutoring experience and a First Class in my bachelor's. I am neurodivergent which has always meant I have to approach learning in a different way to others, this means I have learnt and researched many different learning styles which I can apply to my tutoring lessons for my students, whether they are neurodivergent or not. I've got 4 siblings that I have tutored since I was 16 and enjoyed it so much I decided to become a tutor.

Whichever university you are planning to apply for and whichever stage in the process you are, I can help you to get into your ideal University! My lessons include help from Y12 through to the end of Y13. I've outlined some ways I can help in the stages below:
Pre-personal statement prep (between start of Y12 and end of Y13):
- Help with finding content for your personal statement. Common questions I can help with are: Which books should you read? What type of research projects should you be doing? What super-curriculars are actually beneficial for your application? You don't have much time for lots of super or extra-curriculars, so what are the most efficient ways to stand out? And many more!
- Help with how to write book reviews, research projects, conducting MOOCs and importantly writing notes on everything you've done to make the personal statement writing easier.
- Help with finding articles and papers of interest e.g. in Chemistry World Weekly for Natural Scientists
- Academic conversions about A-level subjects and topics that interest you to start finding why you love and want to study your subject (very useful for both Personal Statements and Interviews)
Personal Statements (Beginning of Y12 summer to Y13):
- Helping to brainstorm ideas (if you had previous lessons with me this will be an easy step!)
- Helping to structure your ideas into an essay that is eloquently written with a logical and clear flow, whilst keeping your voice and passion! - Reviews of the written essay. Once the Personal Statement has been written, it will need to be reviewed multiple times - you will see the transformation!
- Extra tips and tricks to make you unique and stand out ESAT: As someone who took the NSAA and having tutored the ESAT, I can confirm that the ESAT is almost the exact same.
- We will practise the fast timed but easier questions, learning how to spot which questions to prioritise in the exam (one of the most common downfalls is the time limit).
- Practise on the more difficult questions, learning topics you haven't covered at A-level to prep you for these
- Learning how to make an 'educated guess'. This is very important if you struggle with the time. If you have spent time on a question, you need to guess well if you cannot finish it. Interview prep (From Y13 onwards, can start earlier):
- Academic discussions about your personal statement to practise the type of question they might ask you.
- Interview discussion prep: how is the interview structured? What can they ask you? Will they ask you about your personal statement?
- Practice Interviews: Picking topics from both the personal statement, and random technical questions (Cambridge love these) and talking through them together, how to answer them, how to approach it if you are unsure etc.
- Mock interviews: A recommended number is 3 mock interviews, where I will ask real, old interview questions so you know what you're up against.
