I leverage insights from neuroscience and cognitive psychology to provide you with the skills needed to learn math concepts on a fundamental level. Techniques include cognitive demand training, focused vs. diffused mode learning, Feynman learning, active recall, spaced repetition, chunking, interleaving and more. Beyond teaching the mathematics, my goal is to leave the student with the skills needed to learn and thrive on their own, which is crucial for continued learning success in post-secondary and beyond.
I can teach elementary-level maths (grades 1-8) as well as high school algebra, calculus, trigonometry, linear algebra, and economics.
If you're early in your semester, I will look through the curriculum and develop a study plan that focuses on rock-solid understanding of the fundamentals and then build from there. If you're later on in the year and need a quick review, I will adjust the study plan accordingly to focus more on problem-solving ability to get you ready for that upcoming test.
An individual lesson could involve guiding the student through requested materials, working through practice problems, and finally leaving the student with a concrete plan for reinforcing the concepts learned during our lesson which will maximize retention.
