About Viktoria

My ardour for learning Maths during school led me to gain a BSc in Mathematics with Management from Royal Holloway College. Reading Frank Partnoy's “Fiasco” then offered me a thrilling account into the world of investment banking, inspiring me to gain MSc and DIC in Finance at Imperial College, London.
Following successful completion of “Leaders of Learning” course from Harvard, I am developing my own theory of learning, combining fundamentals of neuroscience (Harvard course) with pedagogy and applications on individual teaching.

Throughout the last 15 years I have tutored children individually, in person and online. I have also volunteered for a charity to tutor small groups of children online, after lessons, and I have assisted children in lower academic sets during and after lessons in various state schools.

I believe children learn best in an environment where one CANNOT FAIL, a NO THREAT environment, where there is simply no wrong answer. Eradicating the fear of failure encourages an individual to participate in discussions and learn further.

With today’s ability to access any information within seconds, it is becoming increasingly important to develop critical thinking, an ability to research and analyse information, learning not only what happened, but why it happened, and both its immediate and future implications and effects.

I tutor a wide range of academic curricula, ranging from 11+ and 13+ Exams to A-Level and IB Mathematics. When tutoring a student, I first meet with the pupil and their family to outline their plans and assess their current level. During this initial meeting, I am able to determine the best approach tailored to each student’s individual needs; how do they think? What motivates and excites them? What challenges may we need to overcome together?

I offer students a unique process in order to attain their goals; rather than memorising a strategy or answer, I teach students how to think in a way that lets them apply common sense to problem solving. As an understanding of basic concepts improves, my students start feeling more confident, trusting their own ability and thus increasing attainment in the subject. I encourage them to formulate their own questions as often as possible, communicating with me both during and outside of lessons. This responsibility for their own success gives students a sense of accomplishment, motivating them to embrace their full potential. My experience shows the student to flourish, not just in the required subject, but across the board in academic performance.
No one student is the same, and my students have come from a variety of different starting points and backgrounds. From helping a student to pass Maths GCSE after multiple fails, to helping another to achieve a grade 9 so that they could pursue Higher Level Maths at college, I have been a crucial part of their learning process.

I believe that gaining empowerment is at the core of successful learning, and find it incredibly rewarding to contribute to that process.
