About Dan
I have just completed my second year of Mathematics at the University of Warwick, on an Integrated Masters 4-year course. The biggest thing I love about maths is the problem-solving side, where you get to really apply your brainpower to find the right solution to complex problems. However, I also believe that problem-solving is the hardest part of maths to learn, as different people have different thought processes, and sometimes schools are not able to cater for all ways of thinking.
Throughout GCSEs, A Levels, and in my degree, I have enjoyed working with my peers, explaining topics that they struggle with and discussing our different approaches.
I also have a younger brother currently in the first year of A Levels, who I helped throughout his GCSEs and into Sixth Form, which has given me experience in one-to-one tutoring, and taught me how rewarding it can be.

In my tutoring, I want to find a method of teaching for each of my tutees that suits them personally, whether it is a hands-on approach involving solving problems independently, or a more observation-focused process with worked examples.
In the first lesson, I will start by discussing topics the tutee finds difficult and ranking them in difficulty. Then I will make a short test of practice questions to further aid in this ranking.
Over the course of the tutoring, I will move through the topics in order of most to least difficult to ensure we make the most improvement possible, moving on from a topic only when I am sure the tutee understands it fully.
In each lesson, I will start by providing some warm-up questions on a topic to identify the specific key ideas to work on within the topic, and then work on each idea in a way that suits the tutee best, encouraging the tutee to ask questions and make some deductions by themself. Each lesson will end with a short test that focuses on what we have covered over the hour but also has some shorter questions on other topics to keep refreshing the tutee's knowledge of the course as a whole.
The lessons themselves will be held in a collaborative online drawing space (Miro) along with Microsoft Teams, and the pages will be sent to the tutee/parent to aid with revision.
I can provide lessons on the following: (with the grades I achieved in each in brackets)
- GCSE Maths and Further Maths (9 in each)
- A Level Maths and Further Maths (A* in each)
- Advanced Extension Award in Maths (Distinction)
- STEP Papers (Grade 1 in STEP Paper 2)

Excellent! My daughter finds Dan extremely patient and very understanding
- Eva picks up new topics well, and is extremely engaged in the learning! I think topics such as Pythagoras' theorem and algebra just need a bit of practise to keep them in use.Dan's response :
