Straight off the bat, it's always hard to figure out who to hire as a tutor. That's why I aim to offer the first lesson for free (half-hour lesson)! This alloys for an obligation-free lesson, to build a connection and see if we are the right fit.

I take a student-centred approach to tutoring, focusing on understanding each student’s unique learning style and needs. My lessons are interactive and designed to make complex concepts in calculus, math, physics, and algebra more accessible and engaging. As a fourth (final) -year engineering student myself, all the related knowledge is fresh, and I understand the difficulties we students have.

-Customised Lesson: I tailor practice problems and exercises to address specific areas where students need improvement, ensuring a personalised learning experience. Working through practice papers is a sure way of preparing for any upcoming test/exam and improving gaps.

-Interactive Problem Solving: I encourage students to work through problems step-by-step, providing guidance and feedback to build their problem-solving skills.

-Conceptual Understanding: I emphasise the underlying principles behind each topic to help students grasp the 'why' and 'how,' not just the 'what.'

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in my math/physics over time. I always loved learning how things worked. This interest had its catalyst moment in year 12 physics when I learned how to learn! I reaslied that I'd never been taught how to learn, only what to memorise. After high school I went to university and studied engineering, throughout always enjoying the eureka moment and helping others find that!
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach maths and physics from primary school fractions through to year 13 algebra/calculus. I love teaching when a topic connects to something physical - using calculus to describe motion or algebra to describe patterns. Anything related to mathematics and physics - both academically and applied to real world applications are my jam.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

An academic role model would have to be my old high school physics teacher. My teacher made learning engaging and especially fun! I especially appreciated the joy of the subject that was expressed by this teacher.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs to be able to explain complicated ideas effectively. A great tutor needs to be able to connect with their students and help bridge the gap from unlearnt to learnt.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

A valuable anecdote from my days at school would be the path math's and physics set me on to my career. I did not know what career I wanted to go into until year 13 when I realised how much I enjoyed (and found difficult at many times) math/physics. Math/physics was something I enjoyed and made me realise I wanted to purse engineering.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The difficulties I had was knowing how to learn. Learning to learn is by far the most important skill anyone can have. Learning is all about knowing how to research, and ask for help to give yourself the tools to understand. I never had a tutor during highschool, besides my friend who did who would help me. Having someone by my side to help me when I was stuck was such a confidence boost and help to curb most of the difficulties. Learning is hard, but it can be easier with help.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I am passionate about helping other people. I know how much it means when someone helps me, so I want to share that with others. I especially enjoy helping others in areas that I am interested in as there questions remind me of my learning journey.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions) ?

I believe I am a "Superprof" as I am great at figuring out where students are at in their understanding and helping them understand the steps ahead. I am super passionate about what I teach and love not just teaching students how to memorise answers, but the understanding behind the answer.
