About Jon-James
I am a graduate of Film and Television Studies, but I have been teaching English abroad and developing products for the education and technology sector for most of my career.
I specialise in STEM subjects, and am self-taught for much of this, which gives me a unique insight into what is difficult to understand and why. This helps me to build strategies to analogise and explain in a way that makes sense to even young children.
I teach computing in secondary school and advise the early years sector on STEM. I have a 6-year-old child in primary school.

Knowing your student is the best approach to tutoring, in my experience. Each child is unique and has a distinct method that works best for them.
I start with getting to know the student and finding out how they learn best.
Teaching in school and tutoring both involve breaking down knowledge and this is key to knowing and understanding the topic.
1. Break down problems and processes into manageable chunks.
2. Present new ideas in a way that is understandable and connects with what they know.
3. Rebuild and/or practise with the new knowledge.
