About Ross
Over the last 2 and a half years I've been privately tutoring around 30 pupils in the local area, including within Dollar Academy's boarding house. Before this I was nominated for a Teaching Excellence Award for my work as a Teaching Assistant at Strathclyde University whilst studying for a PhD in Mechanical engineering over 4 years.
Each individual student is different when it comes to achievement, but it's not unusual to see an increase in grade 1-2 grade boundaries over the course of 12 weeks, e.g. from a D in a January prelim (before contacting me) to achieving a B in the actual exam (May).

Provided that we have sufficient time, then I tend to prefer a mastery/spiral learning approach. Mastery - Ensuring that the fundamentals are concrete, intuitive, and further understanding can be built upon. Spiral - Revisiting previously covered topics with either a novel, unusually presented version, or delving deeper into similar topics that build upon prior knowledge; to both ensure that that knowledge is still retained and refreshed (spaced repetition), as well as developing a better more flexible and intuitive understanding of the subject.
