About Emma

I am a 4th year medical student at the University of Southampton with a Bachelors in Medical Sciences. I am an easily approachable and friendly tutor with a passion not only for the sciences and maths but for languages also. Having undertaken my A level examinations just a few years ago, and having tutored multiple students to achieving grades above their predicted grades, I have a strong grasp of what is required to obtain top marks with the new A level specifications. My experience tutoring biology, chemistry, English and Spanish for the past 7 years, with over a hundred completed lessons on MyTutor alone, has also given me a solid grasp on the new GCSE specifications. My aim is to help my students to develop not only confidence but also enjoy the subject they may presently be struggling with.

I am also willing to help with Medical School applications.
Having received offers from Imperial, Southampton and Nottingham and being in the top 5% of UKCAT scores, I have a first hand experience of the various interview types and how the application process works for different universities. Although the process may seem long and daunting, I will help the student at every step of the journey to give them the best chance of being accepted to their top choice university.

I have always had a passion for science and learning and hope that I can share my enthusiasm and knowledge with the students I tutor. I think that the best way to learn is by really understanding the concepts behind the course content. This will allow you to apply your knowledge to situations you may not have come across in the classroom and will make answering exam questions far less daunting. I therefore tailor my sessions around concepts you find particularly challenging which we can go through together, until you know them inside-out.

Having been taking them for years, I know how scary preparing for and sitting exams can be. Over the years I have found that exam technique is a highly beneficial skill to practice in order to excel in exams. I hope to share my tips and experiences with you to help you answer questions to the best of your ability. We can go through any questions you aren't sure about together and if need be learn how to best answer exam style questions.
While exam practice is really important, I hope that during my sessions you will gain skills and knowledge that you can carry with you throughout your academic career.

As a medical school application mentor, I can guide through each step of the process.
1) Personal statements ( structuring, making it stand out)
2) UKCAT ( Practice techniques, past questions)
3) Interviews (preparation, role play, mock interviews provided using real questions)
