About Joana
I am a Medicine student at the University of Edinburgh and already hold a 1st class BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences degree from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. I am an active researcher so I can provide students with up-to-date and practical scenarios for them to apply their skills and knowledge.
What do I tutor? (see my other SuperProf ads for more details)
1) Biology, from secondary level onward, including casual learners.
2) Maths, at secondary and GCSE level.
3) Study skills for higher education and research, even if you have been out of school for some time and are now returning.
4) I can also help you with preparing and submitting your university application, including Medicine.
I have 3+ years of experience tutoring young people in various science subjects and have also worked as an Associate Lecturer for over 1 year (teaching and correcting assignments from the Biomedical Science, Crime & Investigative Studies and Forensic Science bachelor degrees).
As an Associate Lecturer, I was also responsible for providing pastoral support to students, including advice on career pathways and applications. This is why I hope to be helping more of you through the challenge of putting together a personal statement, getting the required work experience and submitting your application.

I am very relaxed and friendly so I like to get to know the students and the areas they are struggling with. This allows me to build a good rapport and encourage the students to feel relaxed during the lessons. I believe this helps build confidence and allows the students to feel free to make mistakes, ask questions and ultimately improve their confidence and understanding in the subject.
Note that I only teach online - we can do this via Skype, MS Teams, Discord, Zoom or whatever works for you.
