About Andrea
When I myself was in primary/intermediate school, I struggled with mathematics and science. In fact, I was in the worst streamline class for math. I was told by teachers that some people were simply 'not good at math' and to 'focus on other strengths'. However, I was fortunate enough to meet a teacher who challenged this belief and inspired my interest in both science and math. Now, I have completed a Master's in Science with First Class Honors and am looking to complete a PhD in 2026 studying breast cancer histology via machine learning. If I did not have a teacher who took the time to help me unlearn this belief - I would not be where I am today. I aim to help my students realize they too can succeed in STEM subjects, even if they seem 'intimidating' or 'too hard'. I have particular experience tutoring biology and statistics in levels 1-3 NCEA.

I have spent roughly 4 years tutoring students from high school (NCEA/Cambridge) and University (undergraduate course teaching assistance) alongside my own studies. As each student is unique, I tailor my teaching style to work with their personal strengths. Lessons may range from 45 minutes to 90 minutes depending on coursework and the student. I try to create a positive learning environment and help my students find their own way to answers, instead of simply reciting knowledge. My students not only experience improvements in grades, but in self-confidence and enjoyment for the learning process.
