Lesson Procedure
1. Warm-Up (10 minutes)
Ask students: “What makes a story’s ending memorable?”
Quick pair discussion and sharing with the class.
2. Reading Activity (15 minutes)
Students read the story silently (or listen to a recorded version).
Encourage them to annotate for tone and mood (highlight key words and emotions).
3. Guided Discussion (15 minutes)
Teacher leads a discussion:
What emotions did you feel while reading?
What is the author’s attitude toward the events?
How does the tone shape the story’s theme?
4. Group Work (10 minutes)
In small groups, students identify one paragraph that best reflects the tone.
They explain their reasoning and choose evidence from the text.
5. Wrap-Up and Reflection (10 minutes)
Each group presents briefly.
Teacher summarizes key takeaways about theme vs. tone.
Quick write: Students compose a short paragraph answering, “How does tone shape meaning in this story?”
