About Simone
I hold a BA in Psychology from New York University, where I developed a strong foundation in understanding how people learn, process information, and overcome challenges. My coursework included written journalism, creative writing, and child and adolescent development, which deepened my ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with students at different stages of their education.
I have experience tutoring students from elementary through high school in reading comprehension, writing, and essay development. Much of my work has been with neurodivergent students, including those with ADHD, dyslexia, and processing differences, through my time at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes. I'm comfortable adapting my approach to meet each student where they are, and I'm skilled at breaking down complex tasks into manageable steps for learners who benefit from structured, patient support.
I'm patient, reliable, and committed to creating a space where students feel supported in taking intellectual risks and building confidence in their abilities as readers and writers. I'm available for both in-person sessions in New York City and remote lessons, and I'm happy to work with students on ongoing skill-building or targeted support for specific assignments and projects.

My approach to tutoring is grounded in meeting students where they are and building confidence alongside skills. With a BA in Psychology from NYU, a minor in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and years of experience working with learners across age ranges, I focus on creating a supportive, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable taking risks with their writing and reading.
My Teaching Method:
I believe in active learning rather than passive instruction. Rather than simply correcting errors, I guide students to strengthen their own analytical and creative thinking through questioning, modeling, and breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps. I tailor my methods to each student's learning style and adjust the pacing accordingly to meet their individual needs.
A Typical Lesson:
Sessions begin with a check-in to understand what the student is working on and where they're struggling. We then work through the material together, whether that's close reading a text, developing an essay, or workshopping creative writing, while I provide real-time feedback. I encourage students to articulate their thinking, which helps solidify understanding. Lessons end with a clear plan for independent work before our next session.
What Sets Me Apart:
My background in psychology gives me insight into how people learn and build motivation. I understand that writing and reading struggles often involve anxiety or negative past experiences. I bring patience, empathy, adaptability, and genuine investment in each student's growth as a reader and writer.
Who These Lessons Are For:
In the past I have worked primarily with elementary school students, but have found my time with middle and high school students to be deeply rewarding. I am passionate about seeing improvement in students of all ages in reading comprehension, analytical writing, essay development, and creative writing. I'm particularly skilled at helping students who feel stuck, lack confidence, or want to develop their voice as writers.
