About Alexis
I am a dedicated scientist and educator with a strong passion for organic chemistry and biochemistry. My academic journey began at Stony Brook University, where I developed a deep appreciation for molecular science, further enriched by my research experience at NYU’s Skirball Institute of Structural Biology in the Wang Lab. My research interests focus on the Taxol Cubane moiety, a structurally unique framework with significant implications in drug development and medicinal chemistry. Through my studies and hands-on research, I have developed a keen ability to analyze complex chemical interactions and apply this knowledge to real-world applications. In addition to my research, I am passionate about teaching and mentorship, using my own experiences to help students navigate the challenges of organic chemistry and biochemistry with clarity and confidence.

My tutoring style is adaptive, student-centered, and results-driven. I work with students both remotely and in person, focusing on mechanisms and pattern recognition to build a deep, intuitive understanding of organic chemistry and biochemistry. Having once struggled myself, I’ve developed a pedagogical approach that not only helped me excel but also allows me to bridge gaps in understanding for my students. I recognize that professors may sometimes overlook key concepts, and I’m here to ensure you get the comprehensive, clear explanations you need. Whether you're catching up, strengthening your foundation, or aiming for mastery, I am well-equipped to tailor my teaching to your unique learning style and help you succeed.
I bring a unique combination of academic excellence, efficiency, and firsthand experience in mastering challenging coursework. I took Organic Chemistry I & II at the University of Virginia, known for being one of the most rigorous courses at the university, and excelled. Additionally, I completed my entire pre-med sequence in just 11 months, demonstrating my ability to learn complex material quickly and effectively. This experience has equipped me with highly efficient study techniques, pattern recognition strategies, and problem-solving approaches that I am eager to share with my students. Whether you're struggling to keep up or looking to optimize your learning process, I can help you develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each session is structured to be efficient, interactive, and tailored to your needs:
Mini-Lecture & Concept Review – We start with a brief but focused lecture on the topic at hand, ensuring foundational concepts are clear before applying them to problems.
Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting – We dive into practice problems, working through mechanisms and applications step by step. As we go, I help identify gaps in logic, misconceptions, or weaknesses in understanding, providing real-time guidance to reinforce learning.
Targeted Skill Building – Based on the challenges we identify, we work on strengthening problem areas, whether that’s reaction mechanisms, stereochemistry, lab techniques, or exam strategies.
After-Action Report & Notes – After each session, I provide a personalized summary with key takeaways, clarification of difficult concepts, and additional practice recommendations to solidify your understanding.

Perfect! Alexis comes to you with many high quality resources and a positive attitude. His outlook made me feel confident from the onset. I had so much practice material in between sessions and his constant availability to answer any questions was reassuring. I went into my organic chemistry I final feeling prepared. My only regret is not finding him sooner.
- Amanda is a wonderful student. She clearly has a keen desire to master the subject she is punctual and hard working. I enjoy tutoring her.Alexis's response :

Alexis brings a positive attitude and many helpful resources to each tutoring session. He was punctual and flexible with scheduling and gave great feedback throughout our time together. I had so much practice material in between sessions that I finally felt prepared for my organic chemistry I final. I also appreciated that he was open to me contacting him in between sessions to answer any questions. My only regret was not finding him sooner.
I had the pleasure of meeting Alexis in 2020 during the Excellence in Cardiovascular Sciences internship at Wake Forest School of Medicine. A few of us in the program bonded over our shared goal of pursuing medical school, but Alexis and I stayed in close contact—perhaps in part because we share the same name! Since then, he has been a constant source of support, encouragement, and academic insight.
One of Alexis’ standout qualities as a tutor is his ability to make complex topics feel approachable and even enjoyable. He has a natural talent for breaking down difficult concepts by relating them to real-life examples, making learning both engaging and memorable. I vividly remember a conversation about chemical reactions where he used a cheeseburger analogy to help me understand how certain elements "prefer" to bond with others. He asked what I always remove from a cheeseburger (tomatoes), and from there, he likened an element in a reaction to my "hated" ingredient. That moment stuck with me, and it’s a perfect example of how Alexis ensures that lessons are both effective and personalized.
Beyond his knowledge and teaching skills, Alexis is incredibly patient and supportive. As I prepare for my MCAT, he has been a reliable mentor—always ready to answer my questions, provide clear explanations, and offer words of encouragement. He never makes you feel bad for not knowing something and instead fosters a positive and motivating learning environment.
For anyone looking for a knowledgeable, approachable, and truly passionate tutor, I highly recommend Alexis. His ability to simplify complex material and his dedication to his students make him an invaluable resource for anyone seeking academic support.Alexis broke down orgo for me in a way that was easy for me to understand! I highly recommend his services!!!
Alexis saved my grade. Without him I would’ve flunked out of college. He was the only shining light in the abyss that is higher education. Could not recommend him enough!!!
