About Gor

Want to improve your chess, understand your games better, and feel more confident at the board?

I’m Gor, a professional chess coach with 17+ years of playing and coaching experience. I work with children, teenagers and adults — from complete beginners to ambitious players preparing for tournaments or looking to reach their next rating milestone.

My coaching is personalised. I don’t simply tell you which move to play. I help you understand why a move works, how to evaluate a position, how to create a plan, and how to make better decisions independently.

If you feel stuck, keep making the same mistakes, struggle to know what to do in the middlegame, or simply want a clear training plan, we can work on exactly that.

My students have achieved strong results in competitions, including prize-winning performances at the American Open, appearances in the finals of the Armenian Chess Championship, and strong performances in international tournaments.

What students and parents often value most about my lessons is my calm and patient approach, clear explanations, structured training, and ability to adapt each lesson to the student's level, personality and goals.

I teach in English, Russian, Armenian and Spanish, and work with students from the UK and around the world through online lessons.

Whether your goal is to learn the fundamentals, improve your online rating, prepare for tournaments, or become a stronger and more independent chess player, I’ll help you build your skills step by step.

Not sure where to start? Send me a message and tell me your age, current level or rating, and what you would like to improve. I’ll suggest the best way to begin.

Every lesson is built around your level, your goals and your own games.

You won’t just sit and memorise moves. We’ll work together to understand positions, identify mistakes, recognise patterns and build the thinking process you can use in your own games.

What we can work on:

♟️ Tactics & calculation — recognise patterns, calculate variations and find stronger moves.

♟️ Strategy & positional understanding — learn how to evaluate positions and create practical plans.

♟️ Opening preparation — understand opening principles and build a repertoire that suits your playing style.

♟️ Middlegame — learn what to do when there is no obvious move and how to turn ideas into a practical plan.

♟️ Endgames — build the fundamental knowledge and practical skills needed to convert advantages.

♟️ Game analysis — analyse your own games, understand where things went wrong and identify what to work on next.

♟️ Tournament preparation — prepare your games, openings, mindset and practical decision-making before important competitions.

What makes my lessons different?

I don’t believe in giving every student the same lesson.

I ask questions, listen to your ideas and adapt the training to the way you think and play. My goal is for you to leave the lesson not only knowing a better move, but understanding why it is better.

The first lesson is also a chance for us to identify your strengths, weaknesses and goals and decide what training approach will help you most.

Beginners, children, adults and experienced tournament players are all welcome.

Send me a message with your current level or rating and what you would like to improve, and we can take it from there.

  • 1) When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

When I was 11 my father taught me how to play chess! I fell in love with this game. I was playing chess everyday in every corner. Then my parents bought chess classes for me.

I was going to classes with a great passion, then I started participating in tournaments and was getting many rewards.
  • (2) Which artists or works affect you the most?

I was affected with legendary Garry Kasparov' games! He has a great talent and I have learned a lot from his games
  • (3) What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?

Patience, hard work, focus, and ability to not give up!
Being respectful also is very important, we need to respect the other opponents and when you lose, try to figure out why.
  • (4) What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

Always believe in yourself, and work hard. Of course success will come.

My advice is to find motivation. Of course, sometimes it is very hard to stay motivated, however we need to find something which can be motivation for us.
For example I imagine how can I improve my situation and I continue my learning process and working with motivation.
  • (5) How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

When I am sad, i just solve puzzles or playing chess games, it helps me a lot.
In chess I like honesty and justice.
  • (6) What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

I think my big achievement is motivating my students with my love of chess
  • (7) Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

Yes, I have a student who is 5 years old. She is an easy learner and I can't stop my admiration for her ability.
Sometimes she solves very hard chess puzzles and it makes me happy!
  • (8) Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret

    I don't have any secret.
In my opinion, coaches should be dedicated, honest and do their best for each student.
When students love you they will learn and success will be inevitable.
