About Matthew
I am currently studying Mathematics at The University of Bath, where I am on track to achieve a First-Class Honours degree, with a particular focus on Applied Mathematics.
At A-level, I studied Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, and Geography, achieving grades of A*, A*, A, and C respectively. My passion for mathematics began during my GCSEs, where I achieved a Grade 9 in Mathematics and Grade 99 in Combined Science Trilogy. I also chose to study GCSE Further Mathematics outside of school alongside my other subjects, achieving a Grade 8.
Throughout my education, I have experimented with a wide range of study techniques and found that, particularly in mathematics, developing a genuine understanding of why methods work is far more effective than simply memorising procedures. This approach not only leads to stronger long-term results but also gives students the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.
I became a tutor because I enjoy helping students build that understanding and develop confidence in their mathematical ability. My goal is not only to help students achieve the grades they are aiming for, but also to help them discover that mathematics can be both logical and enjoyable when taught in the right way.

What you'll receive:
* Online tutoring sessions of 1–2 hours, available up to three times per week, depending on the student's needs and schedule.
* Lessons tailored to the content the student is currently studying at school, ensuring our sessions complement their classroom learning.
* A strong focus on building a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts before progressing to more challenging application and problem-solving questions. My aim is to help students develop the confidence and mathematical thinking needed to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.
* In the lead-up to exams, our sessions will shift towards working through past papers under exam-style conditions. I will mark completed papers and provide detailed feedback in subsequent sessions, highlighting areas for improvement and strategies to maximise marks.
* Ongoing support between lessons via WhatsApp with the student's parent or guardian, should any questions arise or additional guidance be needed.
What I ask from my students:
I believe the best results come from building a good understanding of each student's individual strengths and areas for development. To help me tailor our lessons effectively, I ask students to spend a few minutes at the end of each week making a list of the topics or questions they have found most challenging.
This allows us to focus our time on the areas that will have the greatest impact on their progress. It becomes particularly valuable in the run-up to exams, helping us prioritise revision and address any remaining gaps in understanding to give the student the best possible chance of achieving their target grade.
