About Stella
TRAINED TO TEACH
I hold two ARCT diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music. One is ARCT for Piano Performance. The other is ARCT for Piano Pedagogy. I was trained how to teach, at the BC Conservatory of Music, by one of the best piano teachers in Canada who also was the first teacher to produce 1 concert pianist and 1 Juno-award winning musician.
CONCERT PIANIST "SCERET SAUCE"
Before my teacher passed away, he left a "secret sauce" teaching principles book on how to teach from his years of experience. His book is very difficult and stringent so I modernize it by focusing a lot on cultivating confidence and genuine interest as well.
FOCUSED ON TECHNIQUE
I am very focused on technique because it is the foundation of playing well, especially as you advance to harder pieces.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
For intellectually-curious students, I also like to give historical context to music pieces so students feel like they have better insight and understanding to the music they are learning.

- Usually lessons are 45 minutes to an hour because 30 minutes is too short and rushed.
but if you would like to start with 30 minutes, that is fine, too.
- In the first few lesson, we will focus on proper hand position, learn the keyboard, note reading.
- then we will do a few method book songs and a couple of songs you would like to learn! Some ideas are film scores, pop songs, hotel lounge songs and, of course, classical. I even have tried to play techno and rap (Vanilla Ice) on the piano just for the heck of it. I don't teach blues (different scales).
- for ambitious students who dream of becoming a concert pianist, we will focus a lot on technique and self-expression.
- generally, the lesson is very tailored to your music interests. I am here to help you establish the fundamentals of piano playing.
