About Vlad Alexandru Florin
Hi, I’m Vlad — an engineer and researcher with a First-Class BA and Merit MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, and a Silver Medal from the Romanian Physics Olympiad (top 15 nationally).
I currently work as an R&D Engineer building machine learning systems, and I’ve spent years applying physics and maths to real engineering problems — from aerodynamic probe calibration and CFD simulations at Cambridge’s Whittle Laboratory to uncertainty analysis using Monte Carlo methods.
Having gone through competitive exams and university admissions myself (including winning the Hammond Science Communication Prize for explaining climate science clearly to a general audience), I know how to break down difficult concepts and communicate them in a way that actually sticks.
My approach blends rigorous technical grounding with patience and clarity!

With 5+ years of tutoring experience, I have supported over hundreds of students with successful Oxbridge, Imperial, UCL, Kings and HKU applications. I have worked with 7+ international tutoring organisations and sixth-form schools. I have formal training in tutoring for UCAS admission: personal statements, ESAT and interview preparation.
With my vast experience in Aerospace/Mechanical research with Cambridge and Penn State, I’ve guided students with subject exploration in the following: Fluid Dynamics, Jet Engines, Material Science, CAD, CFD, Electrical Engineering, Information, Nuclear Engineering and Control, and Quantum Mechanics.
As a Research Engineer at a series-C Cambridge-based start up in Legal AI, I’ve introduced students to computer science (Python and Rust), Machine Learning, Recommender Systems, AI safety, Mechanistic Interpretability and
I have tutored A-Level Maths, Further Maths and Physics to a dozen students, in 1-to-1 and groups improving scores by at 2+ marks.
