About Phoebe
I am a masters student at UCL studying Classical Reception. I did my undergraduate degree at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, in Classics (grade 2:1). I gave my first lesson at the age of four, when I was asked to give a lecture to the three year olds on dinosaurs (my area of expertise at the time).

I began to learn Ancient Greek at the age of nine, and it is my belief that anyone from the age of eight upwards can be instructed in Ancient Greek or Latin, and that any prior linguistic knowledge is unnecessary. My methodology is systematic in the learning of grammar and vocabulary, coloured by a lively contextual grounding in classical culture and art, making plenty of links with our own times and culture, and encouraging the asking of questions in students which can help us as teachers improve and broaden our discipline. In this way I would also teach Classical Studies or Classical Civilisation, without the linguistic tuition but instead focusing more on culture, art and history. In the analysis of literature, both Classical and English, I encourage creative and fresh appraisals while adhering to a thorough grounding in established literary analytical techniques.
