About Connor
Hello! I'm Connor and I'm a graduate of the University of Oxford (BA (Hons) in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) and a trainee secondary Mathematics teacher! Besides being a fan of debating, watching Doctor Who, and reading, I'm passionate about learning. Not only have I wanted to do as much learning as I can, I want to help you learn too. I remember when I was in school, struggling with subjects like Maths until it was explained to me in just the right way. Sometimes, tricky concepts need to be explained slowly and deliberately, in a safe, one-to-one environment designed specifically to you. It can make all the difference because, often, the classroom goes a million miles an hour! In our lessons, we'll take it at a nice, slow pace, so that you can try yourself in a safe environment with an Oxford educated expert in learning and the subject matter. As for my experience, I tutored throughout all three of my years studying at Oxford University. Initially, I did it just to pay the bills. But after hundreds of hours of helping young people reach their full potential and get through the stresses of exams, I fell in love with teaching. It changed the trajectory of my life and now I'm a trainee Maths teacher, on my way to a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). I've helped students of all ages (including adult learners) and I hope I get the opportunity to help you too.

My sessions are designed specifically to the pupil, based off an initial assessment of the student's ability. What we want is to ensure that what we are learning is as beneficial to the student as possible. For example, we don't want to be learning basic multiplication if the student is well beyond that level. All of my lessons are informed by the exams which students will sit (at GCSE, A-Level and SAT level), and by the national curriculum for other year groups. This means that the skills and knowledge are as up to date as possible, based off my own extensive knowledge of the GCSE and A-Level specifications as well as a whole host of resources which I used when I was in school, as well as resources which I have developed since through my teacher training. A lesson with me will always end with a plenary and a discussion about what comes next. My philosophy is that no student should come into a lesson unaware of what we will be studying. A tutoring lesson can be taxing (especially if it's in the evening after a long day of school and life) so knowing what topics we will be covering is important. The plenary also gives the student an opportunity to voice their opinions on what they find most difficult and want to focus on more (which, while not being the only factor, will help inform lesson decisions). All in all, my lessons are engaging, relevant and active in which students can use real exam board materials to tackle topics to help them get the best possible grade in an exam.

Connor is an incredible tutor - not only has he provided consistently great lessons in Mathematics and Politics, but he has also made them interesting and engaging. It's clear that he is very passionate about teaching, and I always enjoy our lessons. He has also been really understanding when I couldn't make lessons or had to reschedule. Connor has really helped to boost my confidence. Couldn't recommend enough
