The opportunity of education is not to only about teaching the skills to pass exams, but to learn to understand the power of knowledge and to begin to use the methods and techniques in order to be able to understand how to utilise it.

Think of Alan Bennett's work the "History Boys". I believe that when you're encouraged to indulge your own curiosity, you educate yourself. A tutor should be there to nudge and challenge, not too spoon-feed.
My personal experience is that of a student who successfully applied to Oxford to study modern history, and then worked in finance until rediscovering my first love. The telling of stories of our ancestors whose lives and agency shaped the world we live in today.
