About Patrick
What has been consistent throughout my life is the motivation to understand life’s many landscapes, inward and outward, through the study of English literature and the appreciation and application of creative writing. I have completed my MA (Hons) in English Literature at The University of Edinburgh and begin my Mst in Creative Writing at Oxford University in September 2023. Throughout my life, I have gravitated towards helping others, and have benefited through education. Be it in care-homes in my native Ireland, on football pitches in Zambia, or in the classroom in Scotland and New Jersey, I have always gravitated towards avenues that form lasting relationships where I can both teach and learn from others. Tutoring is another wonderful way to progress this desire to learn and help others.

Having spent time in the United States as a scholarship student at a preparatory school, I experienced for the first time the power of critical thinking, forming my own idiosyncratic opinion, and growing in confidence in my own voice. The type of tutoring I would like to offer encourages the student to learn to think for themselves with a guiding hand that can help simplify the material. The ultimate goal is to stray away from teaching for the test, instead, encouraging students to use their own voice in their writing and see assignments as an opportunity to make things happen, rather than something to overcome.
