About Tom
I’m a secondary school English teacher who’s passionate about my subject and sharing this with my students. I studied my undergraduate at UCL where I graduated with a first class degree. Following this, I completed my PGCE in Secondary English in London, and have worked in schools in London and Madrid for the past five years.
In that time I’ve worked with pupils aged 11-18 of all abilities, helping them to get the best grade possible for them. I’ve pushed students to achieve the top grades, as well as guided others to get the important pass grade they need for further studies. To me, the most important thing is that a student fulfils their potential and feels proud of their achievements.
My classes will provide guidance for students by combining my knowledge of the English curriculum, be that KS3, GCSE or A-Level, with a personalised learning plan for the student. I always start by assessing the level my students currently work at and then make a plan that works best for them.
My goals as a tutor are:
1. To provide clarity for my students about what they need to do to improve and to show them how to do this, with a focus on the requirements of their syllabus.
2. To deliver engaging classes so students enjoy learning and feel motivated to do better.
3. To empower students to have confidence to use the skills from sessions to work independently and make further progress.
