About Joseph
Teaching has always been my passion; music is how I share that love with the world. I received my undergraduate degree in Cello from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, studying with Leslie Frittelli; and master's degree in Violoncello from the oldest conservatory in the world, il Conservatorio di San Pietro a Majella, Napoli, Italy, studying with Luca Signorini, principal cellist of Teatro San Carlo. I have helped students prepare for orchestra auditions, performances, and college auditions including James Madison University, West Virginia University, and George Mason University, leading them to $20,000 in scholarships per year.

You will also learn how to create a high quality sound, use a variety of bow techniques, and move across the instrument with ease.
Each lesson will build upon these skills to make your at-home practice successful and repeatable, new and fresh, and help you rapidly grow with less frustration.

Perfect! Very knowledgeable about techniques that can be useful and improve playing level even after one lesson. His in tune with personalizing lessons to overcome weakness and learning hesitations. To name a few he focuses on items like reading music, rhythm comprehension and bow correction. Excited to have him as a person that I can lean on as I progress in my music.
Perfect! I've been learning violin with Joseph for a little bit now, and I can honestly say—he’s a superstar tutor! He's incredibly patient, always adapting to my pace rather than rushing through lessons. What really stands out is how he tailors our sessions to address my specific challenges, helping me build both skill and confidence. His passion for music and his breadth of experience come across clearly in each class, too.

Our child was interested in entering a preferred performance program available in our school system. Joe Salzberg was recommended as a tutor. We were fortunate that Joe said he would work with our student. Our student's ability improved and confidence grew. Joe was wise with selecting the pieces to best showcase our student's abilities. Goal achieved! Joe is also a terrific human being. Very caring of our full family as we supported our child's musical dream.

Joe is an exceptional teacher. I was continually amazed at how well prepared Joe was for each lesson. He had obviously given a lot of thought into how to fully engage our son in his lesson with a great combination of affirming encouragement and just the right amount of challenge. Joe has a wonderfully positive demeanor which builds confidence and inspires the student to want to improve.
Joseph is excellent teacher. He guided my daughter through middle school orchestra and prepared her for her audition to Colgan High School’s performing arts program. He set a good musical foundation for her to be selected for the regional orchestra for multiple years. I would highly recommend him as a teacher.
Words can not describe how wonderful a cello instructor Joseph is! I searched around for a few months before finding him, and I learned more from him in 3 classes than I did with months of other instructors. I had no prior knowledge of the instrument before hand, and was already intimidated by the thought of starting. In just a few lessons, I felt more confident in, and it has only been uphill from that day on! He makes learning fun and easy for beginners and can add something new to seasoned players as well. Do your skills a favor by learning with him!
