About Nicole
My passion for science began in secondary school, where biology quickly became the subject I loved the most. I pursued Biology, Chemistry and Maths at A-Level with the goal of becoming a vet, and although I didn't secure a place in vet school, that moment shaped the path that led me to where I am today. I went on to study Veterinary Biosciences at the University of Surrey, graduating with a 2:1.
After university, I began my scientific career in 2020 as a pathology scientist at the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). Over the years, I've specialised in techniques such as PCR, Western blotting, and genetic sequencing, primarily working on TSE diseases (which includes the infamous "mad cow disease"). This role has given me deep, hands-on experience with infectious disease, diagnostics, and real-world laboratory practice.
In 2025, I completed my master's degree in Infectious Disease with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, achieving a Merit and receiving the Martin Taylor Award for outstanding performance.
Alongside my career, I volunteer as a STEM ambassador, visiting schools, colleges, and universities to talk about my journey into science and the opportunities available to young people. I adore my job and want to inspire the next generation to pursue scientific careers. As someone who never saw themselves as naturally gifted, I'm passionate about showing students that success in science comes from curiosity, persistence and good guidance - not perfection.
Outside of work, I'm a massive dog lover and spend a lot of time exploring the outdoors with my rescue dog. I'm also a qualified scuba diver and enjoy photographing live music gigs in my free time.

I'm a pathology scientist working in veterinary disease research, and use this real-world biological background to make GCSE and A-Level biology clear, engaging and relevant. Because I'm 27 and recently completed my master's degree, I'm still very familiar with modern exams, assignments, and the way students are assessed.
My teaching approach is personable and highly visual. I like to use analogies, diagrams, and step-by-step explanations to break down complex ideas, helping students understand not just what happens in biology, but why. Many learners benefit from seeing processes illustrated, so I like to incorporate simple sketches and visual aids throughout each lesson. I know this myself as I used these techniques throughout my education to my Master's degree.
Lessons will last for one hour and will be tailored to the student's level and learning style. Longer lessons can be arranged but I recommend a 5 minute break for any lessons longer than one hour to support cognitive focus and reduce mental fatigue. During this time, we can chat about your aspirations, study goals or even hobbies - it helps keep the session relaxed and reset your focus before continuing. I support GCSE and A-Level students who want clearer explanations, stronger exam technique, and confidence in topics including cell biology, genetics, and immunity.
