About Ben
I’m a PhD researcher in Literary Studies, specialising in modern literature with a particular focus on post‑war British writing and the Windrush generation. My work often takes me across the UK and abroad for archival research and fieldwork, and I’m especially excited for an upcoming research trip this summer. Outside of academia, I enjoy swimming, cooking, and playing musical instruments.

I am an experienced and dedicated tutor with a strong academic background in English and Literary Studies, currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Nottingham. I hold a First Class degree in English and French from the University of Exeter and a Master’s in Literary Studies from Queen’s University Belfast.
I have several years of teaching and tutoring experience, supporting learners from beginner to advanced level, both in the UK and internationally. I work with students preparing for exams as well as those looking to build confidence, improve fluency, or strengthen their analytical and writing skills.
I have particular experience supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), which has shaped my flexible, patient, and highly personalised teaching style. Every lesson is tailored to the individual, with a focus on clarity, confidence‑building, and genuine understanding of literature and language.
Having lived in France, I also understand the challenges faced by non‑native English speakers and ensure my lessons are accessible, structured, and encouraging. I offer online tuition with flexible scheduling, maintaining a consistently high standard of teaching and support.

Ben Coxon commenced employment at Campbell College Belfast in August 2024. Ben very quickly became a valuable asset to the Learning support department through his willingness to support a number of pupils who were experiencing difficulty re: learning. I was so impressed with his work ethic and professionalism that I asked if he would be willing to tutor my Niece who is currently studying for her A2 levels. Through working with Ben she improved her English coursework grade from a C to an A. I am delighted and cannot recommend him highly enough.
Ben has supported my daughter in the lead up to her English GCSE. He has gone the extra mile, offering to mark work after her English sessions. This feedback has developed her confidence, making her believe that she can achieve the highest grades. He is knowledgeable, patient and well informed.
Ben has been an amazing tutor for my son in preparing for the 11+ exams. His lessons are clear, engaging, and tailored to my son needs. We’ve seen great improvement in his confidence and ability across, especially in verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Ben is patient, reliable, and genuinely cares about his students’ success. We’re very happy with the support and highly recommend him.
Ben is a great tutor, he worked with my son on English Literature as he had been struggling to keep up with the rest of the class. After several months he felt confident to go into the exam and achieved a B! Ben was well prepared each week and was able to direct Liam in a way that worked best for him whilst also challenging him just enough to get him to think independently. Thank you again Ben, we are very happy with the result.
