About Heather
Hello! I'm a college lecturer with 10 years of experience as both an instructor of record in the classroom and a tutor. Along with graduating with my BA in English, I earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and a PhD in English/Creative Writing. I have worked with a wide variety of students, including ESL learners as well as middle school children as a Writers in the Schools (WITS) program instructor. I have participated in Prison Book Clubs Programs, working with incarcerated individuals on reading and writing, and I have done workshops for elementary age students at local libraries and in the schools. I am ready to work with all age levels from all different backgrounds and experiences!

It is important to me that I encourage students and increase confidence in their ability to communicate and express themselves. I help students find what they're passionate about and assist them in brainstorming topics, structuring their writing, and identifying areas for revision. I have experience teaching college-level beginning and intermediate composition in college, literature, and creative writing.
I love helping people see that they can improve as writers with some practice. I have read and assisted hundreds of students with their writing as both a teacher and a tutor. Count on me to provide guidance in various genres and modes of writing at all different stages of the writing process!
