About Emma
I am an English Literature PhD researcher at Northumbria University. I also hold a first class Master`s degree in English Literature and a BA in English and Sociology. I am seeking to gain more experience in teaching and tutoring students, including adult learners, as I am aiming to work towards postgraduate teacher status within higher education.
I am a careers adviser, but have worked in learning support and teaching roles within FE colleges, primary and secondary education. I am an experienced workplace trainer, and have informally tutored friends and colleagues.
I am primarily looking to tutor and support further education and undergraduate students in English Literature, as well as modules that focus on critical theory, fantasy literature, Early Modern Drama, Victorian literature and contemporary and modern literature.
I am also happy to consider tutoring at GCSE and A level. Please note that because I am a Literature specialist I may not be able to consider all requests to tutor in English Language, but will be happy to discuss particular needs and see if I can support you. If so, please indicate specific syllabus/subject so I can discuss this further.
I enjoy writing in my spare time, as well as crafting and socialising.

I use a mixed methods approach, coaching students by considering what they already know, and building on this. I aim to form a collaborative approach with students to get them engaged, and I try to make topics relate to their interests. I like to include humour and fun into sessions, to help make each lesson be enjoyable and interesting.

Emma has achieved a Masters degree and is a Doctoral student working towards her PhD in English Literature. She has a great depth of knowledge within her area of interest and is committed to her studies and research. She has an excellent scholarly aptitude and a great depth of knowledge. She is always willing to help enquirers in a friendly fashion and encourage them and she is extremely approachable. I am currently working towards a Doctorate in Education and as a colleague with whom I have worked for a number of years, I have no doubt that Emma would be ideal to select as a tutor.
