About Will
I am a university academic and published historian specialising in early modern literature, theatre, and culture. I currently serve as resident historian at Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall in Stratford-upon-Avon, and have previously held teaching and research positions at the universities of Birmingham, Warwick, and Nottingham. In October 2026, I will take up a visiting fellowship at the University of London to work on my next book.
Having completed my PhD at the University of Birmingham's Shakespeare Institute, my academic life is centred on making complex historical texts, literary analysis, and advanced essay construction accessible and engaging.
Outside of research and museum work, I am passionate about helping A-Level and university students bridge the gap between secondary school essay writing and high-level academic analysis. I bring the exact same rigour, enthusiasm, and analytical precision used in university seminar rooms directly into our 1-to-1 tutoring sessions, helping students build genuine confidence and secure top marks.

I provide expert, highly tailored online tutoring for A-Level English Literature students, undergraduate coursework, and university applicants (including Oxbridge preparation).
Whether a student is aiming to push a B grade to an A* or needs targeted support with developing high-level essay technique, my lessons are built to demystify mark schemes and transform how students analyse complex texts.

Informed Essay Coaching: Using my 8 years of experience as a university academic, I break down essay writing into a clear science, focusing on original thesis construction, sophisticated argument flow, and precise use of evidence to satisfy top-band assessment objectives.
Unseen Text Mastery: Step-by-step frameworks to help students approach unseen poetry and prose with complete confidence.
Qualifications & Experience:
Academic Background: PhD from the University of Birmingham's Shakespeare Institute and 8 years experience working across 3 Russell Group universities (Birmingham, Warwick, Nottingham) and in public engagement. From October 2026 I will be a visiting fellow at the Institute for English Studies at the University of London.
Specialist Experience: Extensive background in university-level research and academic coaching, as well as an extensive track record in writing for academic publications and magazines including History Today.
Lesson Logistics:
