About Jernej
I'm an academic with a passion for guiding students. I work as a Facilitator and Thesis Supervisor at the University of Technology Sydney and am a PhD Graduate in Psychology (Deakin University). I also have a Bachelor of Business in Marketing (RMIT University). I aim to empower students with the skills and confidence to navigate complex academic demands and excel. Lesson Length: 1-hour via Google Meet or Zoom, following a similar structure to my weekly UTS Graduate team meetings.
My techniques are tailored to your individual needs, but generally, I employ a student-centred methodology. This means our sessions are highly collaborative, where we identify your strengths, areas to work on, academic goals, and options towards those goals, including relevant resources and planning ahead. I will also help you:
- Break down assignments, complex articles or essays to understand their structure and argument.
- Work through specific grammar points, stylistic choices, or essay structures.
- Provide constructive feedback on your writing, then guide you through revisions to enhance clarity and impact.
- Help to plan and track your thesis milestones (graduate students).
When it comes to Honours-level theses, my approach involves mentorship and guidance. We'll focus on:
Conceptual clarity: Refining your research question and ensuring your arguments are well-defined.
Methodological rigour: Discussing appropriate literature review, research methods and data analysis techniques.
Structure: Ensuring your thesis flows logically from introduction to conclusion, with strong argumentation throughout.
Academic writing: Honing your academic voice, referencing, and overall presentation to meet High Distinction standards.
I aim to not just give you answers, but to teach you how to think critically and independently, equipping you with transferable skills for future academic and professional endeavours.
My lessons are ideally suited for:
University students: Particularly those undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate degrees who need assistance with academic writing, essay structure, research skills, or thesis development.
Honours students: My expertise is particularly beneficial for those working on their Honours-level theses in psychology and other relevant disciplines requiring strong writing and research skills.
Secondary school students (Year 12): Those who are aiming for excellence in Humanities subjects, essay writing, and developing critical skills for their VCE or equivalent.
Anyone looking to improve their English language proficiency or general writing skills for academic, professional, or personal development.
I'm comfortable working with all ages from late high school onwards, provided you are reliable and committed to improving your abilities.
I am an Australian Citizen and have a current Working with Children Check and Police Check.
