About Ruo
I am someone who has always been fascinated by how language connects us to different cultures and ways of thinking, I find it incredibly rewarding to help others unlock the beauty and practicality of Mandarin. Plus, as a PhD student myself, I know how busy life can get. I want to make Mandarin learning accessible, enjoyable, and tailored to each student’s schedule and goals. My aim is to make each lesson feel like a fun, interactive experience rather than a traditional classroom, where we dive into the language, share a few laughs, and make real progress along the way.

My teaching combines interactive activities, structured exercises, and conversational practice to enhance listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. A typical lesson lasts 45 to 60 minutes and includes a mix of explanation, guided practice, and real-life application. I adjust the pace and content to suit beginners, intermediate learners, or advanced students preparing for exams or professional use. I am a native Mandarin speaker with a Level 2A Mandarin Proficiency Certificate. I have a Master’s degree in English Literature and Languages from Beijing Foreign Studies University and my current PhD studies in Film at the University of Exeter, I have a strong academic background and excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
