About Hillary

My name is Hillary, and I am super passionate about literature, communication, and teaching others to develop their literary skills. I am approachable, personable, and have a strong commitment to excellence. I have multiple undergraduate and graduate degrees, and in addition to writing my dissertation I also teach critical writing skills to undergraduate students at the University of Toronto. I am also a seasoned researcher with five years of professional humanities research experience under my belt. I have an established background in education, and am happy to teach in a manner that caters to your individual learning needs. I am more than willing to work with you at any level of comfort or skill, and have no problem trying as many methods as are necessary to get you where you need to be. I'm so excited to meet you and get started! About the lesson

Hi there!

My teaching style is very lively, relational, and uses many different strategies to individualize each lesson to your learning needs. My teaching training and PhD research are both oriented towards using multiple methods––writing, drawing, talking, moving, and so on--to help students connect with and analyze literature, in addition to developing the rigorous technical skills they will need to succeed in such endeavours. This approach works especially well for two kinds of students: those who wish to further hone their already-developed skills, and those for whom reading, writing, and research are difficult or undesirable.
