About Richard
I am passionate about science and mathematics, and I love it when students share this passion. My own philosophy to education is that the best time to learn a topic is BEFORE your teacher brings it up in class for the first time. Then learn it AGAIN from your teacher’s perspective, learn it yet again when you complete the homework assignment. Learn it AGAIN, if necessary, with additional external tuition. And FINALLY learn it for the very last time while revising for the test. My goal as a teacher is to make that step unnecessary. Students should not feel pressure cramming before the exams, since they should already have the skills necessary to confidently give-it-their-best. Use the night before the exam to get a good sleep so you have a clear head the next day.

"Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything learned in school" is a quote often attributed to Albert Einstein. What he was trying to express was the purpose of education is to teach learners how to learn. If a teacher has done their job right, then after some time, the student will be equipped with the mental faculties, critical thinking skills and ability to find and use knowledge effectively in the world. In a maths or physics test the student needs to be able to read the question, understand what is being asked, know which section of the formulae booklet to reference, and how to work out the solution. It is NOT necessary to remember reams and reams of facts, figures and equations, rather it is more akin to learning a gymnastic routine or how to play a musical instrument. With practice it becomes second nature. I have taught Maths and Science as an online tutor for 3 years, and I have been an in-person teacher at schools in Asia for 2 years. Students typically aged 10 and above.
