About Lachlan
I am a research Chemist, currently coming to the end of my postgraduate Masters. Necessarily becoming quite specialised, I relish the opportunity to dive back into other topics and guide tutees through the next steps of their education, giving them the confidence in the subjects they wish to pursue. I was fortunate to have some excellent teachers who instilled in me a passion and curiosity that stems far beyond my subject. I encourage everyone to keep their interests diverse - I'm currently restoring a classic mini and commencing learning Spanish for a trip to Latin America - you will find unexpected connections with your study or work!

I have extensive experience of Chemistry and Maths A levels. I love guiding students through these, helping them to really understand the content so they can perform in exams. I also tutor undergraduate Chemistry, and am always open to applying my knowledge and skills to new levels of qualification. Online only sessions at present. Any time of day. First session free! My Tutoring Approach: I like to have a relaxed but focused session allowing tutees to feel comfortable and really get the most out of their time. I like to cover topics from first principles whenever time permits, so that tutees can really get to grips with the content. Afterwards we work through some problems together and then I set some further work to do before the next session where we can tease out the fine details before continuing with the next section. Where students are willing, I am a big advocate for pushing just a little beyond the course specification. Whilst some might consider this poor use of time, I find it hones the ability to apply core content to new areas and makes students feel much more comfortable when curveball questions come up in exams. I feel it is often the case that good students can miss out on the grades they deserve when they get worked up in the exam, so confidence is key. With this I believe all students should be capable of achieving at least an A! As mentioned, I find it most valuable to set work to be done in advance of the session, hence my rate accounts for some marking time.

Lachlan has been an excellent tutor, assisting me throughout my first year of studying Chemistry at Imperial College London. He is exceptionally dedicated to the role and tailors the tuition to your individual needs. His explanation of university concepts in a precise, clear, and patient manner helped me to improve my chemistry so that I could best face the challenges of undergraduate study.
I have been been tutored by Lachlan for the past two months. He is a very kind and patient individual, with a real passion for both his subject and helping others. Lachlan’s approach to tutoring is both thorough and flexible, tailoring his techniques to suit the tutee’s style of learning. Lachlan’s guidance and support will help to consolidate and broaden your understanding, so that you can achieve your full potential.
Lachlan is an excellent tutor, who knows his subjects very well. He helped me understand the concepts I found difficult, improved my exam techniques and ensured I had all the necessary knowledge for the exams. He puts a great deal of effort into tutoring and encouraged me to work to my best potential. With Lachlan's help I achieved an A in my chemistry a level, I highly recommend him.
