About Amanda

Becoming a teacher was not initially in my plans, but after becoming a mom five years ago, I ended up in an aide position at a wonderful, small private elementary school.

I have developed a strong interest in learning how to teach effectively. The more I learn about the cognitive science of how children learn, the more I pursue strategies and tools to help them build a strong and comprehensive foundation of knowledge—skills that will support them throughout all aspects of life.

About the lesson

My primary focus is working with students who face academic challenges. I utilize Direct Instruction programs that include both core and remedial materials to support student learning. All students begin with a placement assessment to ensure instruction is tailored to their current skill level and to provide appropriate support. The Direct Instruction approach is grounded in proven educational science, emphasizing efficient and effective mastery of content.

Mathematics:
I focus on the foundational skills of number sense, place value, operations, and pre-algebra concepts to prepare students for a traditional Algebra I course.
