About Sorcha

Hi. My name is Sorcha and I just moved back from Vancouver, Canada this year where I spent the last 6 years teaching. I have a Bachelor's of Honors in Education degree from the National University of Ireland Maynooth. I have almost 10 years teaching experience in primary schools. I currently teach first class in a school in Dublin and have previously taught all primary classes and have worked as a learning resource teacher. I have worked as a part-time tutor after school for the last 3 years. I have seen great progress with my tutor students in the past and enjoy working 1:1 with children to reach their potential. 1:1 sessions work well for students who struggle in the mainstream classroom. With experience in classroom management, I can help children to focus when implementing active learning methods. *I tend to use superprof for networking purposes only. About the lesson

I work as a first class teacher and have previous experience in all primary classes and in learning resource where I have worked with students with special educational needs. I am hoping to tutor in order to offer my services for those who may require additional support in order to reach their academic potential. I enjoy working with children one-to-one and giving them the encouragement and support they may need to find success and confidence in their academic abilities. I try to help my students enjoy learning by bringing fun and positivity into the learning environment. I try to balance teaching with the use of hands-on materials and phonics/word games to consolidate concept learning. Children tend to enjoy their tutor session and in turn develop confidence. Typical lessons begin with a reading focus. I assess the child's reading level and then use PM leveled readers to track reading progress. We then work on sight word recognition with the use of games and practice activities. Phonics and recognizing word patterns tend to also be a focus. We can also work on reading comprehension, spelling, sentence writing and more. Tutor lessons are very individualized. As a classroom teacher, I have a lot of experience in assessment and use assessment to identify strengths and weaknesses that allow for individualized planning for your child.
