About Youna

[Education & Training]

I am a professional cellist with over 25 years of international experience in performance and pedagogy. My musical journey was shaped at the world’s most prestigious institutions, holding a Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music, followed by a Master of Music and an Artist Diploma from the Colburn Conservatory of Music.

[Professional Experience]

Currently, I serve as the Principal Cello of the New West Symphony Orchestra and Section Cello of the Long Beach Symphony.
My career has taken me to iconic stages such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in D.C., and major concert halls in Seoul.

[Performance & Awards]

My dedication to excellence has been recognized through numerous international competitions, including the Pablo Ziegler Award at the Astor Piazzolla International Competition and Grand Prizes at the Manhattan International Music Competition and the Golden Classical Music Awards. These experiences have given me a unique perspective on what it takes to succeed in auditions and competitions.

With 15 years of experience in both performing and teaching, I focus on helping students build a healthy technical foundation and a clear musical identity. Whether you are preparing for a professional competition/audition or simply want to improve your playing at home, I provide practical, high-level guidance to help you reach your goals.

About the lesson

With over 15 years of professional experience as a cellist and educator, my mission is to help you find your unique voice on the cello. Having been trained at world-class institutions, I’ve refined a teaching method that balances rigorous technique with artistic freedom.

I believe every student learns differently. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced player preparing for an audition, my lessons are tailored to your specific goals:

• For Beginners: Building a solid foundation with correct posture, bow hold, and healthy habits from day one.
• For Intermediate/Advanced: Refining tone production, mastering complex techniques, and deepening musical interpretation.
• Audition Prep: Intensive coaching for orchestral excerpts, solos, and performance mindset.

Cello is a journey of patience and passion. Let’s start this musical chapter together from the comfort of your home. All ages and levels are welcome!

I highly recommend her to anyone who is serious about improving their cello playing. Her teaching approach is both professional and highly structured, focusing not just on making lessons enjoyable, but on delivering real, measurable progress in cello playing.

I had learned the cello when I was younger but stopped for a while, and recently decided to start again. Youna has made a huge difference in my journey since she is incredibly knowledgeable and has helped me better understand many aspects that I previously struggled with.

In terms of her teaching style, she emphasizes building strong fundamentals and thoughtful practice, which has had a clear and lasting impact on my playing. I’ve been able to notice consistent improvement in my tone, control, and my cello playing overall.

What I especially appreciate is that as my skills have developed, I’ve found myself enjoying the cello even more. The sense of progress she helps create makes each lesson motivating and rewarding.

If you’re looking for a teacher who can genuinely elevate your playing while still keeping you engaged and inspired, I would strongly recommend her.

She was my cello teacher, and I truly believe she is one of the best teachers I have ever met. Her teaching was both professional and highly detailed. After taking lessons with her, my technique improved significantly, and I made remarkable progress. Thanks to her guidance, I was able to gain admission to a great music school, and I am deeply grateful for her dedication and instruction.
