About Anastasia
As well as being passionate about teaching, I also adore helping my students tackle the challenges of learning an instrument from scratch. I am able to observe each child and help them learn in a method that suits them best.
During one of my private one-to-one sessions, a student of mine was struggling to grasp the particular rhythm of a Grade 4 piece. Every time he got it right, when he played the piece all the way through he would get the same section wrong. This is where I suggested conjuring up a specific phrase, something he liked doing. He came up with ‘I like to play football’. I then adapted that phrase to the rhythm of the piece and sang it with him multiple times so he would memorise it. When he played through the piece once more, he got it spot on. This is one of my go-to teaching methods, as it helps the children link their playing to another passion of theirs, building a stronger connection and understanding of the music.
