About David
Since training at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama I have worked extensively as a professional actor with 20+ years of experience from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival shows and stand-up comedy in London to work in leading theatres and leading roles in TV shows. I have trained with Philippe Gaulier, worked with Kenneth Branagh and the RSC and developed my own characters and shows. As well as acting in theatres such as The West Yorkshire Playhouse and the Northcott Theatre, I have played leads in TV series and have acted alongside Sir David Jason and James Bolam. I have also enjoyed a wide variety of TV roles in shows such as Band of Brothers, A Touch of Frost, Dalziel & Pascoe, Heartbeat, Silent Witness, Casualty, A&E, Shipman, Murder in Mind, The Bill, Island I & II and many more. I use my interest in personal development to assist in the teaching process. I’ve learnt the hard way that being at home, trying to achieve your goals on your own is not always easy or straightforward! Outside of acting I have completed a 125 mile run over 5 days around the Chiltern Way for charity and have even owned a food business. I believe a rounded person with plenty to draw on makes a more complete performer. Above all I am passionate about seeing people achieve their potential.

Since graduating from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, I have studied and worked with Philippe Gaulier, John Wright, Kenneth Branagh, the RSC, Sir David Jason and many more. I like to keep the lessons fun and informal with an emphasis on working to support you and realise your potential. During the first lesson, I will spend time making sure I understand what your goals are and what’s needed in order to achieve them. Throughout our time together, we will periodically check back in to make sure we stay on track. The lessons will be tailored to suit your needs in a safe and nurturing environment, either online or in person. I am passionate about enabling and guiding people to realise their potential. The main thing that will make you stand out as a performer is to be present and be yourself. When auditioning, whether it's for drama school panels or jobs, it's so important to harness your uniqueness, the things that make you, you! So, perhaps most importantly, we will be aiming to boost your confidence, because without that we can’t function fully as performers. Through fun and hard work, you will develop a sense of achievement and be well on the way towards developing your potential! I make sure that helpful resources and documents are shared whenever appropriate. The help and support doesn’t stop at the end of the lesson either. Mentorships and support on an ad hoc basis are also available. Whatever stage you’re at, it can also work wonders to have accountability with someone, just to be able to check in and get some feedback on your progress. Through an affordable monthly subscription plan, I can offer help with goal setting, tracking progress and appropriate tools for development. Whether you are a student, beginner, advanced or professional we can work together to take concrete steps towards achieving your goals. Topics covered; voice technique physical awareness & training approaches to the text verse speaking warming up advice on choosing a speech character acting technique prep for auditions and lots more! David is an outstanding talent, professional and dedicated, what you might call, 'the real deal' in the industry. I trained with David at the Guildhall School and Music and Drama in London, where he was awarded the prestigeous Gold Medal award. David is also an incredibly nice person, win, win.
I have had the pleasure of working with David a number of times over the last 25 years. He has that rare combination of being both a talented actor and a great communicator of ideas. Importantly, he has a generous spirit and is always encouraging. David is knowledgeable about acting practice and is energetic in his desire to share what he knows. David is trustworthy, reliable and inspirational. I highly recommend him as an acting coach.
Mr Blair taught me for my grade 5 and 6 Trinity Acting exams and helped me hugely helping me get distinctions in both :) We covered a huge variety in our lessons from objectives, iambic pentameter and hot seating. I learnt lots and will take all these skills with me into the future and has helped me prep for any monologue I perform. The lessons were also fun and engaging!
Mr Blair helped me with my Grade 6 Trinity Exam, as an external helper for my school. For my exam, I had to learn a Shakespearean piece as well as a post 1900's piece. Mr Blair was an excellent help to me, especially with my Shakespearean tone of voice and body language. Additionally, due to the covid situation at the time, I was given some of my feedback online and I still felt this was very beneficial at all.
Mr Blair is an amazing teacher with an incredibly detailed knowledge of acting and stagecraft which is conveyed with precision through his teaching. I was coached through my Trinity Grade 6 by Mr Blair and through the use of acting exercise, character development and encouragement to do my own contextual research, was able to achieve my desired outcome. His extensive experience within the industry would be of help to anyone looking to improve their audition technique, work towards an exam or just improve their acting skills generally.
David is an excellent teacher who is extremely committed to improve the ability of each individual he tutors. He is very enthusiastic, encouraging and really helped me to gain confidence when I perform. Anyone would be very lucky to have him as a tutor!
I've been taught by David for two years, and I have learnt more about various acting techniques, exercises, and styles than with any other teacher; he is a teacher who truly takes time for each of his students and gives specific feedback to help every one of them, and all the while makes sure to retain the fun there is to be had in acting! I am very glad to have been taught by him.
Worked with David on green screen videos and voice over work - excellent, very professional - a pleasure to work with.
Ive been teaching, directing and working with actors at conservatoire level for 26 years, so My excellent opinion of David's work is based upon that experience. Supportive, intuitive and generous, David would make any teaching institution proud to have him.
"David is an excellent teacher, he is enthusiastic, highly skilled and builds confidence in the pupils. As well as being dedicated and reliable he really cares about those he teaches. With us, he taught the students all aspects of Trinity grade 5, 6 and 7 acting, with some of them never having acted before and achieved a 98% pass rate. Highly recommended!”
