About William
I have been helping private clients achieve their goals in public exams and school admissions for ten years. I have five years' experience English teaching as a school teacher and leader. My MA and my PGDipEd (Teach First) are from UCL. My BA is from Warwick in English and Comparative Literary Studies. I completed the Teach First graduate programme and went on to work in school leadership before leaving school to become a full-time tutor. I would be happy to share evidence of my qualifications or a recent enhanced DBS with you. Through studying and through teaching, I have learnt the transformative power of literature in and out the classroom. In addition to helping students achieve their desired grades and admissions, my goal is to leave students with lifelong and lasting abilities to approach literature with confidence, and with joy! As a schoolteacher, I developed a specialism in helping pupils for whom English is a foreign language achieve great scores in their exams. I also developed a specialism helping pupils with dyslexia and other SEN make great progress. Client Success Stories: Progressing from permanent exclusion in y10 to achieving a 7 in English Language GCSE and then admission to BRIT School Gaining admission to Leeds University with an A in English A-Level (1st choice) Achieving a First in English at UCL through essay feedback and academic writing tutoring Achieving a Merit in an MA in psychodynamic therapy from UCL through essay feedback and academic writing tutoring.

Every lesson is structured around an authentic and meaningful reading experience. I believe that fundamental exam techniques are best learnt while developing an authentic response to a literary text. Helping pupils develop authentic responses is at the heart of my practice.
We can arrange a conversation by phone call or message before you book to discuss your specific situation, and develop a bespoke learning plan together. Following our conversation, I will share a learning plan with you for consultation. This will ensure your experience is bespoke because I have fully understood your priorities.
In my experience, it is never too late to reset and achieve level 7-9 at GCSE, or A at A-level.
I enable my students to become independent and self-efficacious learners by adopting a constantly questioning approach in preparation for the challenges of their assessments and afterwards. By providing consistent, clear and immediate feedback in conversation and in writing, I help my students develop the self-aware and reflexive outlook possessed by great readers and great writers.

I am an A level student and Billy has been tutoring me for the last few months, I have found his lessons very enjoyable and helpful. Billy has helped strengthen my critical analysis and understanding of texts. Billy is patient, encouraging and is very knowledgeable.
Billy worked for us from April 2015 to August 2018. Billy is an excellent swimming teacher. His enthusiasm shows in the results of his students. Punctual and reliable and I would not hesitate in recommending him as a tutor.
