About Maya
Bit about me: I'm a Sagittarius, I'm 26, and I am currently the Associate Editor at Document Journal. I've had experience writing for publications like Office Magazine, PAPER Magazine, COMPLEX, and The Whitney Review.
Degrees: I hold a BA from New York University in Fashion Critical Theory and Creative Writing with a Minor in Journalism, as well as an MA from Columbia University in Film and Media Studies for my thesis on deepfakes and mockumentary theory.
Fun Facts: my favorite color is green, I play two instruments, and I used to be a champion synchronized swimmer. Writing is my favorite thing to do.

- I approach writing from a "you gotta master the rules to break them" style - we will learn structure first, and then build strategies for writing compelling essays, stories, think pieces, you name it!
HOW IT WORKS: you bring the writing, I help you make it work. In addition to line editing your piece with you, I can also help develop the concepts behind the piece before you even start writing!
SERVICES:
- Building a specialized writing structure tailored to your work style and goals (ie. flashcards, written outlines, voice memos...we will figure out what's best for you together!)
- Work on constructing engaging thesis statements, arguments, or log lines depending on project
- Workshop creative choices in writing
- Provide line edits as well as hands-on revisions for existing pieces
- Tailored exercises to work on finding your unique voice as a writer
- Conducting and organizing research and sources
***Should you be a journalist or aspiring journalist, I can also share tips on how to pitch to and write for publications.
