About Frances
I am a graduate of Smith College (A.B.) and Oxford University (.Ph.D). who has taught for two decades at Oxford and The New School ( NYC). I have received not only stellar student evaluations and faculty reviews but have also been nominated for a teaching award. More recently, I have written a poli sci/history textbook, The Routledge Guidebook to Paine’s Rights of Man ( April 2020).

Since a good essay is a cogent essay, I begin by asking my students to write outlines with well-chosen examples. When they come up with a viable outline, I ask them to begin drafting their essays. Over the years, I’ve discovered that these outlines help simplify the essay writing process, making it a much less daunting task.
