About Keely
Hi! I’m a qualified and experienced English teacher with a First-Class BA (Hons) in English Language & Linguistics, a PGCE, and QTS. I currently teach full-time in a secondary school (and have for the last 3 years), specialising in GCSE English Language and Literature. I'm highly confident with the AQA board, and working as an examiner for their English Paper 1. I work mainly with KS3 and KS4 students, but have experience with Functional Skills and EAL learners too.
My teaching approach is tailored to the needs of every individual. I take the time to understand where each student is at, and adapt my lessons accordingly—whether you're aiming for a top grade or just need help boosting confidence in a tricky area. I offer a balance between structured, exam-focused support and more creative, exploratory learning depending on what suits the student best.
I have particular strengths in relationship-building, setting high expectations, and explaining things clearly and concisely. I also have extensive experience working with students who have SEND or additional needs, including those with EAL backgrounds, and I always strive to create an inclusive, supportive environment.
I’ve taught a range of GCSE set texts including Jekyll and Hyde, Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, Animal Farm, Romeo and Juliet, and the Power and Conflict poetry cluster, alongside AQA Language Paper 1 and 2. I also design and lead revision sessions for Year 11 and co-created a Shakespeare transition unit for Year 9, helping students gain confidence with challenging texts early on.
With a strong foundation in educational theory and the latest pedagogical strategies, I bring evidence-based techniques into my teaching to make learning stick. I want every student I work with to leave lessons feeling more confident, equipped, and motivated—whether they need targeted exam prep, help with analytical writing, or just someone who believes in them.
If you're looking for an encouraging, well-qualified, and passionate tutor, I'd love to support your learning journey.
Friendly, focused, and highly responsive, I’m here to support your learning journey with encouragement, structure, and clarity.

Each lesson is tailored to meet your specific needs, whether you're preparing for GCSEs or A-Levels, working on an essay, or looking to improve your creative writing. My aim is to help you become a better writer, thinker, and communicator, regardless of your current level or age.
I start by assessing where you are in your studies and discussing your goals. This allows us to devise a plan that suits your learning style — whether you're looking for exam-focused support or a more explorative approach to improving your writing skills. From there, we’ll work together on developing your critical thinking, writing techniques, and understanding of English literature, while making sure that lessons are engaging, fun, and rewarding.
I can support you with:
KS3, GCSE and A-Level English Language & Literature preparation
Essay planning, writing, and critical analysis
Literary analysis and close reading (including set texts like An Inspector Calls, Jekyll and Hyde, Animal Farm, and poetry)
Creative writing, grammar, punctuation, and style
Building confidence in exam technique and timed writing
You can choose between in-person lessons, Zoom tutorials, or distance learning, and I’m happy to provide written feedback and editorial support as well. Some students prefer regular, structured sessions, while others like a more flexible approach — I’m happy to work with what suits you best. All materials, exam papers, and detailed feedback are included.
I believe in the power of your own thought and creativity. We’ll focus on developing your writing skills in a way that is both personally rewarding and academically successful, helping you to express yourself clearly and with confidence.
