  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed a strong interest in mathematics from a young age - I enjoyed problem-solving and the logical clarity maths offers. I began tutoring at 16 and quickly discovered I had a talent for explaining complex topics in a simple, student-friendly way. That experience sparked my passion for teaching.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach mathematics from KS3 through GCSE and A-Level. I particularly enjoy algebra, problem solving, and exam technique. My focus is on building deep understanding and showing students how to break problems down. I don't avoid any topics - even the difficult ones like trigonometry or proof - because I believe every concept can be mastered with the right approach.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes - my A-Level maths teacher had a big impact on me. He had high expectations but explained things with patience and clarity. He made the subject feel achievable, even at an advanced level. That balance of structure and care inspired the way I teach today.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs three things: clarity, patience, and adaptability. You must understand the subject deeply, explain it clearly, and adjust your teaching style to suit each student. Good tutors also listen, observe, and genuinely care about the student's progress.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of my most memorable students was 84 years old - she never had the chance to go to school and wanted to learn maths from scratch. I helped her prepare for her functional skills certification. Her determination reminded me that it's never too late to learn, and it deepened my respect for teaching as a lifelong skill and service.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

A challenge I've seen often is students giving up too early because of fear. Maths is often labelled as "hard," which affects confidence. My job is to dismantle that mindset, step by step, and show them they can do it - it just requires a method and effort.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching is more than a job for me - it's my way of giving back. I'm passionate about unlocking potential in students and watching their confidence grow. I also have a deep personal interest in educational access and youth mentoring, especially for those who are often overlooked by traditional systems.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I'm a qualified teacher, a UCL graduate, and someone who genuinely cares about student progress. I combine subject expertise with structure, empathy, and results. My students know I'm consistent, responsive, and 100% invested in helping them achieve their goals.
